In 1612 the original mill was built on this site. It was knowned to be a so-called "Postmill", and was in operation until 1896. During those 284 years there were many owners and much repair work. In 1896 the mill was torn down and replaced with a more effective and modern "Hollandsk mølle" ie. meaning dutch mill.

After World War II usage of this mill declined because more modern machinery was put into use.
In 1982 the last active miller, Gunnar Rasmussen, along with his wife Grethe, transferred the ownership to Majbølle Mill Society, which  had been recently founded.
In 1989 the mill was restored and opened to the public.
The mill loft holds exhibition showing the history and the restoration of the mill.
The grainary serves as a showroom and meeting place.
In the front room there is a display of old field tools.
Majbølle Mill Society is a self-supporting institution which is solely responsible for ongoing repair work and renovation. All work is performed by volunteers and funded by contributions from the public.
